Testosterone, often referred to as the "male hormone," plays a crucial role in the overall health and well-being of men. Beyond its association with masculinity, testosterone influences various aspects of physical, mental, and reproductive health. Understanding the importance of testosterone is essential for men seeking to optimize their vitality and maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
In today's world there are many factors at play in the declining levels of Testosterone among the average man. We lead a typically more sedentary lifestyle, with easier access to poor dietary choices. Higher stress levels, lack of quality sleep can make us more susceptible to lower T levels. Also alcohol and narcotics are of much more common use these days, all of these combined are just a few of the reasons that Testosterone levels are dropping year by year.
Below you will find information on why it is crucial for Men to maintain healthy levels, the symptoms of having low test and how we can increase it naturally, we have included links to studies so that you don't just have to take our word for it!
Testosterone is a key player in the development of masculine characteristics, such as increased muscle mass, and bone density. It contributes to the maintenance of a healthy weight and the regulation of fat distribution. Adequate levels of testosterone promote overall physical strength and stamina, influencing a man's ability to engage in regular physical activities, maintain a healthy body composition, and support a robust cardiovascular system.
Beyond its physical effects, testosterone also plays a vital role in mental well-being. Research has shown that testosterone levels are linked to mood regulation, cognitive function, and overall mental clarity. Low testosterone levels have been associated with symptoms such as fatigue, irritability, and even depression. Maintaining optimal testosterone levels is crucial for sustaining mental health and promoting a positive and focused mindset.
Testosterone is indispensable for reproductive health and sexual function in men. It contributes to the development of male reproductive tissues and the production of sperm. Additionally, testosterone influences libido, sexual arousal, and overall sexual performance. Adequate testosterone levels are vital for a healthy and fulfilling sex life, and imbalances can lead to issues such as erectile dysfunction and reduced fertility.
Testosterone is a key factor in maintaining energy levels and vitality. It supports the body's ability to produce energy and helps combat fatigue. Men with optimal testosterone levels often experience higher levels of motivation, increased stamina, and an overall sense of well-being. This is particularly important for those leading active lifestyles, as testosterone contributes to the body's resilience and ability to recover from physical exertion.
Research suggests a connection between testosterone levels and cardiovascular health. Adequate testosterone levels may contribute to a healthy cardiovascular system by regulating blood pressure, supporting proper circulation, and influencing cholesterol levels. Maintaining a balance of testosterone is thus crucial for reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and ensuring the overall well-being of the heart.
Testosterone is a multifaceted hormone that plays a pivotal role in various aspects of men's health, both physically and mentally. From physical strength and mental well-being to reproductive health and energy levels, the importance of maintaining optimal testosterone levels cannot be overstated. Men who prioritize their hormonal health through a balanced lifestyle, regular exercise, and proper nutrition are likely to experience enhanced overall well-being and a higher quality of life.
There are a wide range of symptoms having low test can cause, such as:
There are many ways in which we can positively influence the amount of Testosterone that our bodies are able to produce and maintain. Here are just a few methods that can give you a boost and help you stay right where you need to be.
As part of our natural circadian rhythm, testosterone levels rise during sleep. Studies have shown that sleep deprivation can cause a significant decrease in testosterone production. Alongside this, low testosterone levels can in turn lead to poorer levels of sleep quality, creating a downward spiral. Making sure we're getting consistently deep and restful sleep helps to maintain healthy levels of Testosterone, as well as having a positive effect on literally every other process in the body.
Resistance training such as weightlifting, has been documented in several studies help men both improve and maintain the levels of Testosterone in their bodies. Acute shifts in T levels are observed in response to heavier resistance training among men of all ages, some studies have shown as much as a 21.7% increase directly after a weight training session. Over time these increases can add up and actually lead to long term increases in the amount of Testosterone produced.
Certain foods have been shown to improve Testosterone levels in men such as high quality red meat and fatty fish. Red meat contains nutrients such as vitamin B6, Zinc and Taurine, all of which can have positive influences on testosterone production. While the omega 3 fats in fatty fish have also been shown to boost and help to maintain healthy levels. Foods to avoid are anything that is heavily processed, high in sugar and contain vegetable or seed oils. Excessive consumption of alcohol and the use or narcotics can also lead to lower testosterone.
Along side the foods we eat, there are a number of herbal supplements that we are able to take. Below are a few that are backed by scientific studies and have exploded in popularity of late, due to their effectiveness.
Of course we advise that you take a little time to research these yourselves and come to an informed and educated decision on whether or not they're right for you.
Known as a powerful adaptogen, Ashwagandha increases the bodies resilience to stress. It also possesses potent antioxidant properties that help protect against cellular damage caused by free radicals, and has been shown in studies to give a slight boost in testosterone as well as aiding the user in achieving more restful sleep. In one small study with 58 participants, those who took 250 or 600 mg of ashwagandha extract for 8 weeks had significantly reduced perceived stress and levels of the stress hormone known as cortisol. Another analysis that looked at five studies found that taking ashwagandha significantly enhanced maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 max) in healthy adults and athletes. All of these effects combine can lead to increased testosterone production and the maintenance of healthy levels.

Also known as Longjack, this is an herbal supplement that comes from the roots of the green shrub tree, native to Southeast Asia. Several human studies have shown incredible results for both increasing testosterone levels and improve sperm count and motility. A small, 5-week study in 14 men participating in a strength training program also found that those who took 100 mg of Tongkat Ali extract per day experienced significantly greater increases in lean body mass than those taking a placebo. One study assessed stress hormones in 63 people taking Tongkat Ali extract or a placebo for 4 weeks.
The researchers saw significant improvements in anger, tension, and confusion in people taking the extract. Testosterone levels increased, and levels of the stress hormone cortisol decreased.

Zinc is an essential mineral that is naturally present in some foods and available as a dietary supplement, found primarily in red meats and fatty fish. It has been shown that men who received 30 milligrams of Zinc per day showed increased levels of free testosterone in their body. However, using a supplement may not be necessary as another study demonstrated that using a zinc supplement won't raise your testosterone levels if you're already getting enough of the mineral. If you think you may not be getting Zinc in your daily diet, it may be worth considering supplementation.

Cistanche is a herb that grows in the deserts of Asia, originally used as a remedy for erectile dysfunction. It's mechanism of action is converting cholesterol into Testosterone in Men. It has also been discovered that a plant compound found within Cistanche, Echinacoside, can act a a Vaso-relaxer. Potentially aiding in achieving greater blood flow to the penis and improving erectile dysfunction. While results reported are somewhat impressive, only animal studies have been conducted so far and human trials will need to be completed in order to prove it's potency.
